Meet the Designer
Where Cartography, Illustration & Marketing Come Together
Kelli Pearson, founder and designer of MapCo Marketing, has been creating maps and visual communications for more than three decades. Her career began in commercial art and cartography in the 1980s, long before digital mapping became commonplace, giving her a foundation in both the art and technical side of mapmaking.
In 1999, Kelli established MapCo Marketing with a simple idea: a map can be much more than a way to get from one place to another. It can tell the story of a community, showcase a destination, promote local businesses, guide visitors and capture the personality of a place in a way few other marketing tools can.
Today, MapCo creates custom maps for businesses, communities, tourism organizations, events, wineries, campuses, marinas and destinations throughout California and across the country. Projects range from detailed street and navigational maps to colorful cartoon maps, illustrated visitor maps, isometric maps, facility maps and completely one-of-a-kind creations.
Every Map Is Truly Custom
There is no one-size-fits-all approach at MapCo. Every project begins with the place, the purpose and the people who will ultimately use the map.
Some projects require accuracy and an incredible level of detail. Others call for personality, imagination and hand-illustrated artwork. Many require both.
Kelli combines traditional illustration skills with today's digital design tools to create maps that are functional, visually engaging and distinctive to the places they represent. Her background in graphic design and marketing adds another important dimension: understanding not only how a map should look, but how it can communicate, promote and even generate revenue for the client.
A Passion for the Places We Map
Whether illustrating the landmarks and businesses of a small town, mapping an entire wine region, creating a visitor map for a destination or developing a detailed map for a completely unique project, Kelli approaches each map as a labor of love.
